When Hila and Simon reached out to me online to capture their wedding in 2024, I could tell from the start that it was going to be special. And let me tell you—it absolutely was!

We started the day at the stunning Cockburn House in Balerno, Edinburgh. This wasn’t just any house; it was one of those grand old Scottish homes with loads of character. Big rooms, a beautiful countryside vibe, and even horses outside—it was like stepping into a storybook. Both families were buzzing with excitement, scattered around different parts of the house getting ready.

Simon’s dad, for instance, was downstairs doing some work (classic dad move), while Simon and his best friend were upstairs suiting up. Meanwhile, Hila was in one of the dreamy rooms upstairs, looking absolutely radiant as her makeup artist and hairstylist worked their magic. When I arrived, she showed me her dress, flowers, shoes, and all the little details she’d carefully chosen for her big day. I jumped right in, snapping away while everyone prepared.

Off to the Free Company

Once everyone was ready, we headed to their ceremony venue, The Free Company. This was my first time shooting at the Free Company, and wow—what a gem! It’s got this rustic farmhouse vibe, with gorgeous flowers and decor that gave everything such a cozy, romantic feel. Guests were arriving, chatting, and soaking up the atmosphere, and I captured plenty of those candid moments.

The ceremony itself took place in this intimate, dark-but-moody-beautiful room. Luckily, I came prepared with my flash, so every little detail—from the look on Simon’s face when he saw Hila to the heartfelt moments during their vows—was beautifully lit and captured.

The Party Begins

After the ceremony, it was time for cocktails, mingling, and some seriously good food. We moved into the reception, where speeches brought laughter and a few happy tears, and everyone was in the best spirits. One of the highlights of the day for me was the Jewish tradition where Hila and Simon were lifted in chairs while everyone cheered and danced around them. It was pure joy and such an unforgettable moment!

In between all the festivities, we snuck away for a quick portrait session. The countryside backdrop was stunning, and the newlyweds absolutely glowed with happiness. It was also nice that they made sure I was fed—always appreciated when you’re working hard!

Wrapping Up

As the day went on, I captured so many beautiful candid shots of their friends and family celebrating together. When I finally delivered their gallery, I was thrilled with how the photos turned out. Hila and Simon were such a lovely couple, and their wedding was nothing short of magical.

I hope they’re loving married life as much as I loved being part of their special day. And honestly? I’m crossing my fingers that someone else books me for the Free Company this year—it’s an absolute dream venue!

If you’re planning a wedding in Edinburgh (or anywhere else in Scotland!), I’d love to hear your story and help capture your big day. Let’s create something beautiful together!
